Project Overview

 

The ECO COMPATIBLE LIFE project (LIFE09 INF/PT/00045) was proposed by the Natural Park Service of Madeira (SPNM) – Regional Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources, in partnership with the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA) and is co-funded by LIFE + Information and Communication – European Community financial instrument to support the European ecological network – Natura 2000 sites.

With the title “Communicating to the socio-economic sustainability, human benefit and biodiversity in Natura 2000 sites in the Madeira archipelago” and the acronym ECO COMPATIBLE, this project began in October 2010 and ends in September 2014.

The main objective is to promote and enhance the compatibility between the development of socio-economic and cultural activities such as fishing, agriculture, nature tourism, the management of nature reserves, hazardous areas, habitats and species listed in the annexes of the directives which support Natura 2000.

This project is part of the communication and information strategy of the financial instrument of the European Community LIFE + for the European ecological network – Natura 2000 through the transmission and delivery of information to the public as well as better implementation, management and conservation of Natura 2000 sites. 

Total budget: 607,792 euros

LIFE contribution: 285,646 euros
